75th Anniversary Posters for the Friends of the Dallas Public Library

A freelance series of 18"x24" posters created for a historical exhibit presented by the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, an organization that has been supporting the Dallas public library system since 1950. The exhibit told the story of the Friends organization itself, spanning decades of community involvement.

Across 15 individual posters, the project demanded careful handling of copy-heavy layouts while working with vintage photography that varied in quality and resolution. The main challenge was finding a consistent visual approach that could hold the series together without compromising the quality of the historical photos and incorporating the existing branding the Friends organization already had.

Tools used: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign & Photoshop

Along with the larger 18”x24” posters I also designed a set of 20+ smaller description panels that were used for all of the historical pieces on display at the exhibit, a few of which are shown below.

BeProject Character Designs

This set of characters was designed for the BeProject’s “CREST” outreach program. Intended to help teach kids and young adults about five of the most important aspects of a healthy relationship: Communication, Respect, Equality, Safety and Trust.

These characters were created in multiple variations and file types to be used as die-cuts for stickers and cut outs, lockups for T-shirts, alternate color options for dark and light backgrounds, etc.

Angry Amos

Angry Amos is a character I created in 2015 and you can read about him here. I included a character study as well as illustrated the individual character panels to render a full 360 degree animation.

Angry Amos may not be a young man, but he has many adventures yet to be told.

Logo/Emblem Design

This design was for a client who was throwing a large birthday celebration for their husband. They wanted an emblem they could use to have printed on event materials and had a general idea of what to include. I proposed a few ideas, one of which was to use their awesome dog Ollie as the focal point of the emblem and main mascot of the trip.

Starting with pencil sketches based on a photograph of Ollie which was then brought into Illustrator and traced and refined until I had a recognizable and simplified Ollie we could use for printing any materials the client could want.

Since the event was taking place during a beach vacation the client also requested some alternate color and beach variations you will see further down the page.
